News from ODHH – Hiring an Attorney

Are you having trouble hiring an attorney because of the need to use CART or a state registered interpreter?

Jerry Pennafrom from the ODHH Satellite office in Erie, is reaching out to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities asking if anyone has had a hard time trying to find/hire an attorney when you are in need of legal help, only to find that the attorney turns you down because they don’t want to pay for an accommodation, such as a state-registered interpreter, Communication Access Real-time Translation (CART), or an assistive listening device (ALD)?

The Office for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing would like to hear from you and hear about your experiences in trying to hire an attorney.  Please contact gpenna@pa.gov or 814-806-2511 phone/videophone or 814-871-4788 tty.
